Saje Rose jewelry is gold filled. Gold-filled jewelry is a type of jewelry that consists of a base metal (such as brass or copper) covered with a thick layer of gold. The gold layer is mechanically bonded to the base metal through a process of heat and pressure. The thickness of the gold layer in gold-filled jewelry is typically much thicker than that of gold-plated jewelry.

To be considered gold-filled in the United States, the gold layer must be at least 5% (or 1/20) of the total weight of the item. This is denoted by the stamp "1/20" or "GF" followed by a karat number (e.g., 1/20 14K GF). The karat number indicates the purity of the gold layer, with common options being 10K, 12K, or 14K.

Gold-filled jewelry offers a more affordable alternative to solid gold jewelry while still providing a durable and long-lasting option. It can have a similar appearance to solid gold, and with proper care, gold-filled jewelry can maintain its beauty for many years. It is important to note that gold-filled jewelry may eventually wear down over time, revealing the base metal underneath.

“Tarnish-free” and “tarnish-resistant” are terms used to describe the properties of jewelry in relation to how they react with oxygen and other elements in the air that can cause the metal to oxidize and develop a dull or discolored appearance. Here’s the difference between the two?

1. Tarnish-Free Jewelry: Tarnish-free jewelry is typically made from materials that are highly resistant to tarnish or corrosion, such as stainless steel, titanium, or certain types of plastics. These materials are not prone to oxidization and will maintain their original appearance over time, requiring little to no maintenance to prevent tarnish.

2. Tarnish-Resistant Jewelry: Tarnish-resistant jewelry is made from metals that have been specially treated or coated to slow down the tarnishing process. Common examples include rhodium-plated sterling silver or gold vermeil. While tarnish-resistant jewelry is more resistant to tarnish than untreated metals, it is not completely immune and may require occasional cleaning or maintenance to retain its original luster.It’s important to note that no jewelry is completely immune to tarnish or corrosion over an extended period. Factors like exposure to air, humidity, body oils, and certain chemicals can still affect tarnish-resistant or tarnish-free jewelry to some extent. Regular care and proper storage can help prolong the appearance and lifespan of jewelry, regardless of whether it is labeled as tarnish-free or tarnish-resistant.

Cleaning gold-filled jewelry is relatively simple and requires gentle care to avoid damaging the delicate gold layer. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to clean gold-filled jewelry:

1. Prepare a cleaning solution: Mix a small amount of mild dish soap or gentle jewelry cleaner with warm water in a bowl. Ensure the water is not too hot, as excessive heat can damage the jewelry.

2. Soak the jewelry: Place your gold-filled jewelry into the cleaning solution and let it soak for a few minutes. This will help loosen any dirt or debris that may have accumulated.

3. Gently clean the jewelry: Use a soft-bristle toothbrush or a gentle jewelry cleaning brush to lightly scrub the jewelry, paying attention to any intricate areas or crevices. Be gentle to avoid scratching the surface.

4. Rinse the jewelry: Thoroughly rinse the jewelry under warm running water to remove any residue or cleaning solution. Be careful not to drop or lose any small pieces.

5. Dry the jewelry: Pat the jewelry dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using tissues or paper towels, as they can leave fibers or scratch the surface.

Additional Tips:
- Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the gold layer.
- Do not use ultrasonic cleaners for gold-filled jewelry, as they can cause the gold layer to separate from the base metal.
- Remove gold-filled jewelry before swimming, bathing, or participating in activities that may expose it to harsh chemicals or abrasion.
- Store gold-filled jewelry in a clean, dry place, preferably in a jewelry box or pouch, to minimize exposure to air and moisture.

Orders ship within 1-2 business days UNLESS you are ordering a pre-order item. If you are ordering a pre-order item OR handmade item that we have sold out of, you will get an email update when the item will ship (which is typically 1-2 weeks from the time the order was placed).

Saje Rose offers some items that are handmade i.e. the Twine Vase or the Princess Vase. Not all items are handmade. Handmade items typically ship within 2 weeks of the order being placed.

Saje Rose has a return and exchange policy in place. If you are unsatisfied with your purchase or need to make a change, you can reach out to their customer service for assistance and information on the specific return/exchange process.

However please note: Jewelry items cannot be returned due to hygiene and sanitation concerns. Once a piece of jewelry has been worn, it comes into direct contact with the skin and body, making it unsuitable for resale to ensure the health and safety of our customers.
